Report: Broncos expected to hire Dolphins DC Vance Joseph as head coach

Report: Broncos expected to hire Dolphins DC Vance Joseph as head coach Joseph will take Gary Kubiak's place in Denver. The Denver Broncos’ head coaching job figured to be one of the most sought-after in the NFL after Gary Kubiak retired following the end of the season. They have a Super Bowl-caliber defense and youth at quarterback with most of their best assets still under contract.

His Miami Dolphins now eliminated from the NFL postseason, Vance Joseph will head to Denver tomorrow to interview with the Broncos for their coaching vacancy. Should he be hired , he may bring a familiar face with him to the Mile High City. Joseph has reportedly reached out to Mike McCoy about joining the Broncos staff as offensive coordinator, if he is hired as head coach .

The first name connected to the Broncos by major media outlets is also a man who was a strong candidate the last time the Broncos had a head coaching vacancy. That man is Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph . Ironically, Joseph ’s interview came right after the Broncos interviewed offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who is now the head coach in Miami. The Broncos wanted to hire Joseph as their defensive coordinator, but he remained in Cincinnati as the team’s defensive backs coach before moving to Miami this past year to take a defensive coordinator position.

Vance Joseph met with the Broncos on Tuesdayand returned to Denver's facilityWednesday. There he was givenan offer to become the team's next head coach.

Joseph, who served as Miami's offensive coordinator in 2016,accepted the offer.

"He brings a leadership quality that you really love about him," said Miamicoach Adam Gase, via the Broncos' release. "He has such a great personality and such a strong personality -- that alpha-type personality where he demands a lot from players and they give him everything he has."

Rooney Rule working as intended, Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman says

Rooney Rule working as intended, Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman says John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, which advocates for minority hires at the top levels of NFL franchises, is pleased with the progress teams have demonstrated this year in following the Rooney Rule.Vance Joseph and Anthony Lynn, both African-Americans, were hired this week as the coaches of the Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, respectively. From 2012-16, only one minority landed a job as head coach of an NFL team, when the Jets hiredTodd Bowles in 2015,ESPN notes.

To me, Vance Joseph is a great choice to replace Gary Kubiak as the Broncos Head Coach . Who is Vance Joseph and what is his background? Now one concern with a possible Joseph hire would be, who will the Offensive Coordinator? While that lingering question is a worrisome one, I believe that Joseph and Elway could court a quality candidate to come to the Mile High city to help turn the offense around.

The Denver Broncos are closing in on a deal with Vance Joseph to make him their new head coach , a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Wednesday. Joseph , 44, was the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator in 2016. He was scheduled to interview for the San Diego Chargers' head- coaching vacancy on Wednesday but stayed in Denver after interviewing with the Broncos on Tuesday.

Joseph had been contacted by every team with a coaching vacancy except the Jaguars, who took the interim tag off of Doug Marrone. TheChargers spoke with Josephearlier Wednesday, according to ESPN.

Joseph has risen through the coaching ranks in recent years. Before hisDolphins gig, he was a defensive backs coach for the 49ers from 2005-10, DB coach for the Texans from 2011-13 and DB coach for the Bengals from 2014-15.

Althoughinterest Josephhim has increased this offseason, he also caught the Broncos' eye in 2015, when he interviewed for their vacancy then. GM John Elway reportedly came away impressed from that interview butultimately went with Gary Kubiak.

Broncos stay in AFC West for offensive coordinator, QBs coach .
As John Elway did with Gary Kubiak, he has hired one of his former backups to the Broncos' coaching staff. Former Denverquarterback Bill Musgrave, who was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Raiders, will be the new quarterbacks coach as new Broncos head coach Vance Joseph continues to compile his staff.Running the Broncos offense will be former Chargers coach Mike McCoy. He'll be in his second stint as the Broncos offensive coordinator. McCoy was Denver's OC from 2009-12 under coaches Josh McDaniels and John Fox."Mike is a hell of a play caller," Joseph said Thursday.
