Arsenal and Tottenham keen on want-away Mahrez

Arsenal and Tottenham keen on want-away Mahrez Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is looking set to leave the club this summer as he hopes for them to honour an agreement which allows him to leave at the end of the 2016/17 season, and North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested. According to a report from the Telegraph, former Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri requested that the Algerian international remained at the King Power Stadium for one more season before moving on and with Mahrez having agreed to that, he now wants to seek pastures new. Without a doubt, the tricky winger would come at a heavy cost. The report claims that the Foxes value their key man at at least £30 million which is a fee that both Arsenal and Spurs would be able to pay, but it’s a matter of who would be willing to. The 26-year-old is open to remaining in the English game despite links with a move abroad, so Arsenal may fancy their chances at signing Mahrez.

Of the five meetings between the sides in all competitions since the start of last season, Spurs have lost only once (W1 D3).

Only once in 10 previous home games against Tottenham in the Premier League have the Foxes failed to score (1-0 defeat in April 2000).

Tottenham have won only one of their previous 24 away Premier League games against a reigning champion, with Tim Sherwood's Spurs beating Manchester United in January 2014 (D3 L20).

Craig Shakespeare has won all five of his home Premier League games as manager. Leicester haven't won six top-flight home games in a row since March 1966.

Marc Albrighton has been involved in seven goals in 10 Premier League games under Shakespeare (2 goals, 5 assists), compared to one goal in 21 appearances under Claudio Ranieri this season (0 goals, 1 assist).

Christian Eriksen (13) is one assist away from equalling Darren Anderton's record of 14 (1994-95) for a Spurs player in a single Premier League season.

Tottenham have won 80 points this season from 36 games and will finish in 2nd place. This points tally is already higher than the second-placed side in each of the last two seasons: Arsenal - 71 points in 2015-16 and Manchester City 79 points in 2014-15.

In fact, if Spurs (80 points) win this match then they would surpass the points tally achieved by Leicester City when they won the Premier League last season (81 points).

Since the start of September, Harry Kane has scored 22 goals in 25 Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.

Merson's prediction

I think this will be a good game. Leicester have done alright, and I really think Craig Shakespeare should get the job.

The players like him, and if another manager comes in, I really don't see how he's going to stay there, as the new manager will see him as a threat.

They nearly got a result at City, and I think there will be plenty of goals in this game. Leicester have a go, and Spurs will go for it too. They looked impressive again against Man Utd, and these are two sides with a lot of confidence.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-3 (22/1 with Sky Bet)

Tottenham are marginally odds-on at 5/6 with Sky Bet, who make Leicester 3/1 outsiders while pricing the draw at 14/5. Harry Kane is the 7/2 favourite in the first goalscorer betting and is the same price to be the Premier League's top goalscorer, while Jamie Vardy is 11/2 to break the deadlock. Mauricio Pochettino's men have been priced at 9/1 to go one better than their runners-up finish next season, while the Foxes are 100/1 to win the Premier League title again.

Pochettino: Kane is one of the best strikers in the world .
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino called Harry Kane one of the best strikers in the world after the England striker scored four times as Spurs hammered Leicester 6-1 at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night. Kane’s quadruple strike moved him to the top of the pile in the race for the Golden Boot, two goals clear of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku. Spurs travel to Hull City at the weekend, whilst Everton will face Arsenal at the Emirates, so it looks like Kane will end the season as the league’s top scorer for the second year in a row. When asked about his striker, Pochettino said: “To be fair when he was injured, other players scored goals, like Son, or (Dele) Alli or (Christian) Eriksen but it’s true that Harry Kane is our main striker and one of the best in the world.” It’s hard to argue with the manager’s assessment of his star man as he continually finds the back of the net and, if he can continue in this manner, we can all envisage a bright future for Tottenham. Kane, along with the likes of Alli and Eriksen will look to go one better next season and win the Premier League title, although to do so, they will have to quickly come to terms with playing at their temporary home of Wembley Stadium, a place where they’ve had very limited success in recent years.
