Chelsea: What we learned vs Leicester

Chelsea: What we learned vs Leicester Chelsea made it three consecutive victories this season with a 2-1 victory at the King Power Stadium. Goals from summer signing Alvaro Morata and ex-Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante made the opening day defeat at the hands of Burnley a distant memory. It was another impressive performance from Antonio Conte’s men, who will now be looking forward to Tuesday’s meeting against Qarabag, and the return of Champions League football at Stamford Bridge. Morata’s the main man In terms of a replacement for Diego Costa at Chelsea, Alvaro Morata, a player Conte has coveted since the day he arrived at Stamford Bridge, is as good as many fans could have wished for. The former Real Madrid man has big boots to fill at Chelsea but he has got off to the perfect start, more than anyone could have expected. Morata made it three goals in four games for the Premier League champions with another brilliant header. His movement to find space in the box is brilliant and highlights just why Conte was so keen to bring him in this summer. Azpilicueta partnership continues to flourish Something that went under the radar on Saturday was another brilliant assist from Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spaniard put the ball on a plate for Morata to head past Kasper Schmeichel, in what was almost a carbon copy of the goal he scored against Everton before the international break. Playing in the right centre-back position, Azpilicueta can venture forward occasionally and find those pockets of space.

- Cesar Azpilicueta is one of the best central defenders in the world , according to Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte. The Spain international has become a crucial part of Conte' s back three, and even got on the scoresheet in a 6-0 Champions League thrashing of Qarabag on Tuesday.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has labelled Cesar Azpilicueta as one of the best players in the world . The Spanish defender has fitted perfectly into Conte' s 3-5-2 formation this season – having previously played at either right or left back – but has adapted to play as a right-sided centre back.

Antonio Conte hailed defender Cesar Azpilicueta as "one of the best in the world" following Chelsea's 6-0 win over Qarabag on Tuesday.

Azpilicueta scored the third in the victory over the Azerbaijani champions at Stamford Bridge as the Blues made a resounding return to the Champions League.

The Spaniard played every minute of Chelsea's Premier League campaign last season and has played a key role during the start of the new campaign for Antonio Conte's side, who currently sit third with three wins from four.

"Last season Azpi was one of the most important players for us," Conte said.

"In this position as a central defender he is one of the best in the world. He is very good with and without the ball.

"He's a fantastic guy, he's always positive, and during the training sessions he works in a fantastic way.

"For a coach to have him is a dream."

Morata reveals how close he came to joining Chelsea last summer .
Alvaro Morata has revealed just how close he came to joining Chelsea last summer when Antonio Conte initially took charge of the club. In an open and honest interview with the Daily Mail, Morata opens up about leaving Spain for Chelsea and admits he was very close to joining a year earlier. Morata reveals that his now Chelsea team-mate, Cesar Azpilicueta, had been helping him buy a house in England prior to a potential move, but the deal did not go through. “Last summer it was close. Cesar Azpilicueta was a bit annoyed because he had already started house-hunting for me last summer. We’d even got estate agents on board. This time Cesar has sorted everything!” Reports have suggested that Conte has been eager to bring Morata to Chelsea since he joined the club from his post with the Italian national team. “When I spoke to Conte last summer, I said “If I’m going to leave Real Madrid, it will only be for Chelsea”. I remember I was with my wife after hearing him out conversation and I said “Chelsea are going to win the league this season.” And that’s exactly what happened. Now we need to repeat it!” It was Conte who signed Morata for Juventus, but the duo never got the chance to work together as the Italian left shortly after the striker arrived at the club.
