Emre Can seeking release clause in new contract

Emre Can seeking release clause in new contract Emre Can’s contract talks have been dragging on for months now leading to some fans speculating that the player could well leave the club in the near future with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus all having been linked in the past week. The German midfielder is in the form of his life and with his contract expiring next summer, he’s eager to start earning a pay-packet that his performances have earned, whether it be at Anfield or elsewhere. Talks with Can over a new deal have stalled however, as the former Bayer Leverkusen man is demanding a release clause be inserted into the deal, claim the Mirror. Liverpool managed to keep Philippe Coutinho at the club despite Barcelona’s best efforts to sign him and Can doesn’t want to suffer the safe fate as his Brazilian teammate should a bigger club come in for him down the line, and the addition of a release clause does offer him an exit route. Can is reportedly seeking £100,000-a-week from Liverpool to sign a new deal and the Reds are in a race against the clock to get it done as Can can begin to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards.

Red Bull Leipzig have confirmed that striker Timo Wener does not have a release clause and the Bundesliga club are under no pressure to sell, thwarting Real Madrid and Liverpool 's pursuit.

Liverpool were keen on signing Timo Werner in the summer but decided to hold off on a move and went after his Red Bull Leipzig teammate Naby Keita, who will be joining the Reds for a club-record £48m fee next summer.

That’s not to say Liverpool don’t still hold long-term interest in Werner. With Divock Origi not in the first-team picture at the moment, Danny Ings struggling with injuries yet again and Daniel Sturridge clearly not Jurgen Klopp’s preferred centre-forward, the Reds could move for a striker in the near future to complete a star-studded attack with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Werner has really broken out since his £9m move from Stuttgart last summer, netting 25 goals and providing seven assists in 36 games for Leipzig, and 31 goals in his last 40 games for club and country.
