McCormack admits his spell with Aston Villa was a "disaster"

McCormack admits his spell with Aston Villa was a Ross McCormack has admitted that his time at Championship club Aston Villa was a “disaster” and hopes that his loan move to Melbourne City will help him to rediscover his goalscoring touch, according to a report on the Derby Telegraph. The striker has left Villa Park until January on a loan deal to Australian side Melbourne City and hopes to leave a lasting impact at the club. The 31-year-old, who had a glittering scoring career with Fulham and Leeds United, found it difficult to replicate that form with Villa and could not get a run of goals in the team. The forward has also found it difficult to see eye to eye with manager Steve Bruce, which has led him to being loaned out. “It’s been a disaster [at Villa]. There’s no two ways about it. I scored four goals and played something like 25 games,” said McCormack. “I think most players have a dip in their careers, hopefully that was mine,” he added. The Scottish forward joined Villa for £12m in the summer of 2016 and was given the target to fire the club back into the Premier league, but his form dipped. However, he has hit out at his critics. He said: “I was club captain at Leeds, club captain at Fulham. If you’ve got a bad attitude you’re not getting those honours. So my message is that I’m here to do things right.

With the international break finished, our attention turns back to the Championship as Aston Villa head to the Molineux to play Wolves on Saturday evening.

Before the break for the World Cup Qualifiers, Villa had shot up the table thanks to a run of five wins and three draws in eight matches – they now sit just one point outside the play-off places and just four points off of an automatic qualification spot.

However, Steve Bruce and his team will know that they’re going to have to be at their very best if they hope to take all three points back to Birmingham. Wolves have been in great form as of late, and they currently sit in second place in the table, just a point off top spot.

Villa lose Taylor's red card appeal

Villa lose Taylor's red card appeal According to an article in the Birmingham Mail, Neil Taylor will serve a 3 game ban after failing to overturn the red card that he picked up during the 1-0 win against Bolton on Saturday afternoon. The Wales international was sent off with just seconds left in the game after he put in a late tackle on Bolton’s Adam Le Fondre. After the game, Bruce declared that he thought it was a harsh sending off and that he would definitely think about appealing it. He did, but Jeremy Simpson’s decision was upheld. As a result, Taylor, who is currently away on international duty, will now miss Villa’s difficult away match to Wolves, their tricky home match against Fulham, and a clash against local rivals Birmingham. This gives Bruce a bit of a dilemma as Taylor is Villa’s only senior left-back. Therefore, he will now have to decide who is going to take Taylor’s place in the next three matches. It’s likely that Ritchie De Laet will fill in during Taylor’s absence, but Bruce could even consider playing Hutton at left-back.

Villa picked up another three vital points at the weekend as they defeated Nottingham Forest 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday evening. This has consisted of 2 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses. Here is our predicted XI for tomorrow’s game against Burton Albion

Although promotion is all that Villa are after this season, they will still not want to be dumped out in the first round of a competition that they have a proud history in – they have won this tournament 5 times, with only Liverpool having won it more. Here is our predicted Villa XI for Wednesday’s match

Villa’s line-up has been picking itself recently, but due to Neil Taylor’s suspension, Bruce is going to have to make at least one change.
