Hodgson reportedly ready to look for experience in January

Hodgson reportedly ready to look for experience in January Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is reportedly poised to look specifically to recruit players with Premier League experience in January. The Eagles found business difficult in the summer transfer window, and this has proved to be damaging given their poor start to the season, in which they have failed to even score a goal or pick up a point. However, according to the Daily Mail, the experienced Palace boss wants to look into signing players with more pedigree in order to spearhead an unlikely survival mission. Hodgson has only been at Palace for around a month following Frank de Boer’s dismissal, and has been tasked with a hugely challenging target in turning the club’s season around. It’s stated in the report that Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere is on Hodgson’s radar, with the England international keen to resurrect his career in the hope of securing a World Cup call-up next summer. Wilshere has made two appearances this season.

Crystal Palace are set to battle with London rivals West Ham United for the signature of Arsenal’s attacking midfielder Jack Wilshere, who is looking to leave the Emirates in January, according to a report on the Daily Star.

Wilshere is looking to get more first team action in an attempt to convince England manager Gareth Southgate to select him in the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Gunners will not consider a loan move for Wilshere and if he joins Crystal Palace in January, it will have to be on a permanent basis.

However, the Gunners have placed a £20m price tag on Wilshere. But with the player pursuing a move, they may relax that price slightly which gives Palace hope of securing his signature.

Wenger backs Wilshere to go to the World Cup

Wenger backs Wilshere to go to the World Cup Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed midfielder Jack Wilshere to make the England World Cup squad next summer. Wenger says that Wilshere is in good form at the moment and that there is no reason why he cannot make the squad. Speaking to The Mirror, Wenger said this: “I believe that Jack, at the moment, is in the best form I’ve seen him in for a long time.” Wilshere has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Crystal Palace and West Ham reportedly keen, but Wenger thinks Wilshere can stay at Arsenal and still return to the England set-up. “I believe he doesn’t necessarily have to leave Arsenal to reach the World Cup.” England booked their place in the 2018 Russia World Cup last week with a 1-0 win over Slovenia at Wembley. Harry Kane scored an added time goal to secure qualification with a game in-hand, with Wilshere now having the chance to represent his country in the finals next year. The Arsenal man has not been in an England squad since last November, but has impressed in his recent performances for Wenger’s side. Wilshere will just need to stay injury-free in the run up to next summer, with Wenger saying how confident he is of the midfielder making the cut. “If he keeps going like he’s going at the moment, he will go to the World Cup, I’m sure.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson has targeted Wilshere as the player to fire his side away from relegation after picking up zero points without finding the back of the net even once this season.

West Ham are also in the race to sign Wilshere but the lack of competition for an attacking midfield position at Palace may convince the midfielder to move to Selhurst Park.

The midfielder has featured twice for Arsenal this season and has been impressive. He is yet to appear in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace to scout Cenk Tosun against Monaco .
Crystal Palace are poised to continue their interest in Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun. According to the Daily Mail, the Besiktas striker is set to be monitored once again by the Eagles’ scouts when he takes on AS Monaco in the Champions League this week. Palace’s interest in Tosun was well documented throughout the summer and they came close to signing him near the end of the window. However, despite their initial move falling through, it looks as though they are still keeping a close eye on the Turkey international’s progress with Besiktas this season. The 26-year-old is close to the end of his deal at Besiktas, and has been in fine form this season. Tosun has notched on six occasions, and has been a standout performer for his side. It’s stated in the report that Besiktas would consider offers worth around £20m. Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur have previously been linked, but it appears as though Palace are showing the keenest interest in securing his signature.
