Ward heaps the praise on Woodburn

Ward heaps the praise on Woodburn Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward has heaped the praise on his club and international teammate Ben Woodburn. As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, the Wales international lauded Woodburn as “very bright” and even admitted to not being fully sure of what the 17-year-old’s best position is. “He takes it all in and you can see that from the way he can play a number of positions seamlessly. I don’t think I know what his position should be!” “He can play as a No.8, a No.10, on the wings or as a No.9 and he seems to know every position perfectly. Tactically, he is very, very bright for someone who is only 17.” Ward spent last season on loan at Huddersfield and has since made one appearance in the Carabao Cup with the Reds, which came in the defeat against Leicester City. “You forget sometimes that he is only 17, he’s still a boy. But obviously he’s got qualities that everyone can see and he’s taken that on to the international stage.” Woodburn, on the other hand, has only been used sporadically in the last couple of seasons as Jurgen Klopp looks to ease him into first-team action. “It’s just a case of him not getting carried away. I don’t think he would ever be like that because he’s a grounded lad. He’s just got to keep learning from the manager and and the players that we’ve got who can be great role models for him.” Despite Klopp’s hesitation to throw Woodburn in at the deep end though, Wales boss Chris Coleman is not holding back, and has already made the youngster a regular in his squad. “Hopefully that can develop him into a top, top player. The world could be his oyster. Hopefully he gets there.” Woodburn will now look to kick on and continue his development, with Ward hoping for more of the same from his compatriot.

This was the time past year that Spurs stormed forward into a position from which they should have won the Premier League. Pochettino, who left Southampton to take over at Spurs in May 2014, saw his side beat his former employers 2-0 in December previous year.

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has told the club’s official website that it will take the squad some time to adapt to the style of play desired by manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

Pellegrino was appointed as Saints boss following the sacking of Claude Puel after just one year in charge of the club.

The Argentine has come in with his new philosophy and Ward-Prowse reveals that the players are still settling in to the new ideas.

The Englishman has found himself on the bench more often this season but is determined to fight for his place in the starting line-up.

“It’s still early on in the season and we have to keep taking the positives from the games we have played and try and work on that to help us in the long run. It feels like a different type of season.”

Ward-Prowse believes that when the style of play finally clicks into place, the team will rise up the table quickly.

“After this two weeks, it’s a great chance for us to hit the ground running and take the league by storm now.”
