  Team news: Celtic v Hibernian Celtic go into Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against Hibernian looking to book their place in another domestic final under Brendan Rodgers. The Hoops fell to a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League to Bayern Munich in midweek but are still in pole position to secure Europa League football after Christmas. Neil Lennon’s side lost 1-0 to title challengers Aberdeen last time out, while the Hoops extended their unbeaten domestic run to 59 games with a win over Dundee last weekend. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park last month and will both be keen to become the first team to secure their place in next month’s final. Celtic Jozo Simunovic has missed the last three games after suffering a hamstring injury and further scans revealed he will remain sidelined for a few more weeks, as confirmed by Rodgers. Anthony Ralston is still recovering from a slight tear in his meniscus from before the international break and won’t be available to return to action. Hibernian Long-term absentees Liam Fontaine and Darren McGregor remain out.

Celtic return to domestic action on Saturday against Dundee at Celtic Park after the penultimate international break of the year.

Dundee are unbeaten in three of their last four games before the break, and their only defeat came at home to Brendan Rodgers’ side in the League Cup.

The Hoops enter a crucial 17-day period from Saturday as they face Bayern Munich twice in the Champions League, and face Hibernian in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden as well as a trip to title challengers Aberdeen.

Neil McCann’s side sit eighth in the table after a 2-1 win over Hearts at the end of last month, while Celtic are top of the table on goal difference after a draw last time out with Hibernian allowed Aberdeen to close the gap.

Jozo Simunovic, Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong won’t feature on Saturday but should be fit for Wednesday’s game against Bayern Munich.

Tom Rogic will also sit out the game against Dundee after making the long trip back from Sydney having helped secure Australia secure a World Cup playoff tie against Emilio Izaguirre’s Honduras.

Anthony Ralston is still recovering from a slight tear in his meniscus from before the international break and won’t be available to return to action.

Erik Sviatchenko is fully fit again while Eboue Kouassi is close to returning to action from an ankle injury.


Scott Allan isn’t eligible to face his parent club and is also out injured after he underwent surgery on a groin problem.

Julen Etxabeguren, Kostadin Gadzhalov and Josh Meekings are close to returning from long-term injuries and have been playing for the development squad to help build up match fitness.

James McPake is recovering from a knee injury and may be included in Saturday’s squad, but Craig Wighton remains out as he recovers from surgery on knee ligament damage.
