Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez has revealed that he is targeting a Spain call-up ahead of the World Cup at the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, as quoted by the Chronicle Live, the versatile attacker outlined his ambitions for the season and stated that he wants to make his mark on the international stage with his country.

“My dream is for me to be able to play for the national team. I had the chance to play for the U21s but with the first team, that would be something really amazing.”

Perez has never been called up to Spain’s senior side, but has made two appearances for their Under-21s.

The striker is yet to hit the net for the Magpies this season, and has underwhelmed in large parts. However, Rafa Benitez evidently admires his qualities, and is hoping that his compatriot can fire Newcastle to safety and beyond this season.
