Boxing under threat ahead of 2020 Olympic Games

Boxing under threat ahead of 2020 Olympic Games The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has revealed that the future of boxing is under threat for the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, according to a report on BBC Sport. The IOC has expressed its deep concern for the way the sport is governed and this is one of the main reasons as to why the sport is currently under threat. The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) has claimed that they have met all the requirements of the IOC, however, they are not satisfied with a few areas of the sport. The IOC are still concerned about the governance, refereeing and anti-doping areas of boxing and have also confirmed that there will be an investigation into these areas. President of the IOC Thomas Bach said: “We are extremely worried about the governance in AIBA. The IOC reserves the right to review the inclusion of boxing on the programme of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.” The IOC suspended funding for AIBA in December until they could prove that their financial aspects had improved but after a two-day meeting in Pyeongchang, the IOC concluded that sufficient proof was not provided. AIBA will now compile another report and submit it for review to the IOC by the end of April. Olympic boxing has seen some brilliant fights and gold medallists, including current professional heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who won gold at London 2012 and James DeGale, who claimed the Olympic crown in 2008 in Beijing.

It's not just athletes who feel the tension during Olympic competition. Coaches, family, and friends feel anxiety as well as they watch loved ones attempt to reach the peak of their sport. Just look at Aly Raisman's parents during the Summer Olympics.

'I was tense as on a first date', recalls Italian before starting training with Roger Federer

'I was tense as on a first date', recalls Italian before starting training with Roger Federer Thomas Fabbiano, 28, flew to Dubai to act as the eight-time Wimbledon champion's hitting partner and he was pleased with the way he performed on-court. "I only know that that first afternoon in Dubai I arrived well in advance and that I was tense as on a first date," Fabbiano said, as quoted by the Express. "But after that early afternoon in Dubai he and his team must have thought that they can count on me with their eyes closed."To be fair, Federer had been inactive for a month and a half, and the fact he was just getting up to speed helped me break the ice. We actually played at least 11 sets.

Somehow, Antti Koskinen, a Finnish snowboarding coach, is about as calm as a person could be when his athletes are preparing for competition. Over the weekend, as Roope Tonteri was waiting for a run, Koskinen calmly working on a knitting project at the top of the slopes and people were perplexed about how chill he was.
