  Markelov confirmed for fifth F2 season alongside rookie Makino Artem Markelov will remain with the Russian Time squad for a fifth campaign in Formula 2, where he will be joined by series newcomer Tadasuke Makino. Russian Time had originally been omitted from the 2018 entry list as the series welcomed new teams, but found its way back onto the grid and will take up #1 and #2 as the reigning series champion. Markelov joined the Russian team in 2014 while the series was under its GP2 guise and has gone on to become a multiple race winner and title contender, finishing second overall in 2017. “We had a strong season in 2017 when I won five times and finished second to Charles Leclerc in the championship, so it would be nice to go one better.” said the 23-year-old. Markelov will be joined by Makino, who graduates from European Formula 3 having competed in one season for Hitech GP. The 20-year-old finished as runner-up in the 2015 F4 Japanese Championship. “I started karting at five and always had a dream to race in motorsport’s top category,” said Makino. “I am now another step closer to that. I’m really looking forward to racing with last year’s champion team, Russian Time. “Thank you to all the fans and everyone who has supported me. I’m hoping to meet everyone’s expectations.” Russian Time is the fifth team to confirm its full driver line-up, with Arden International and Campos Racing having announced one driver each. DAMS, MP Motorsport and Trident are yet to announce any drivers.

Maximilian Gunther will step up to the FIA Formula 2 championship with Arden International for his rookie season in 2018.

With Gunther and Fukuzumi, Arden is the second F 2 team to opt for an all - rookie line - up for 2018. ART Grand Prix will run Fukuzumi' s GP3 team-mates Jack Aitken and George Russell.

Maximilian Gunther will make his Formula 2 debut with Arden International, partnering Honda junior and fellow Formula 3 European championship graduate Nirei Fukuzumi.

Gunther has spent the last three years in Euro F3, scoring 31 podiums including 10 wins, with a best result of second place in the drivers’ championship in 2016.

The Mercedes DTM junior tested with Racing Engineering in F2’s post-season test, but the Spanish outfit withdrew from the series to focus on the European Le Mans Series.

“I’m absolutely ready to take the next step and can’t wait to go up against the world’s best young drivers,” Gunther said.

There are two levels of Rookies . All kids regardless of age must start with a Red restrictor plate. Gunther and Fukuzumi are the only confirmed all-rookie line-up on the grid so far.

“We are delighted to welcome Maxi into the team. He has been extremely competitive and consistent in European FIA Formula 3 over the past number of years,” said team manager Kenny Kirwan.

“Together with Nirei, we believe that we will start the season with one of the strongest and most consistent rookie driver pairings in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.”

Seven seats are yet to be announced with the new-spec 2018 car’s shakedown taking place on Wednesday at Magny-Cours.

DAMS is expected to confirm Nicholas Latifi and Alexander Albon and Trident should be running Haas Formula 1 juniors Arjun Maini and Santino Ferrucci.

The identity of MP Motorsport’s drivers is unknown as is Luca Ghiotto’s team-mate at Campos.
