West Ham to sign free agent defender Patrice Evra

West Ham to sign free agent defender Patrice Evra West Ham are to bolster their squad with the free transfer signing of former Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra, according to Paul Joyce of the Times. Twitter: West Ham are signing Patrice Evra on free transfer (@_pauljoyce) David Moyes was unable to add a defender to his squad in the January transfer window but there was always a feeling that they could sign a free agent after the window closed to plug any holes and it appears as if they are. Evra has been out of work since being released in November by Marseille following an incident with a fan which saw the France international left-back kick out at the spectator. The 36-year-old was subsequently handed a seven-month ban from UEFA club competitions but is eligible to play in domestic league matches and West Ham are expected to bring in the defender on a deal until the end of the season. Moyes worked with Evra during their time together at Manchester United. The left-back has made 273 Premier League appearances, scoring on seven occasions and picking up five title-winning medals.

According to Eastern Daily Press, former Norwich target Toni Leistner is available for a free transfer.

Leistner has six months left on his contract at Union Berlin, so Norwich can approach the defender over a move in the summer, but the promotion clause in his contract could confuse proceedings.

If Union Berlin get promotion to the top tier of German football, then a clause is triggered in his contract, which will keep him at the club for another 12 months.

However, they are five points of the play-off spot and 10 points behind the automatic promotion places, so they need some resurgence during the last stretch of the season if they want promotion. So Norwich could get the man which they’ve previously wanted.

Pied and Gardos free to negotiate Saints exits

Pied and Gardos free to negotiate Saints exits Southampton pair Jeremy Pied and Florin Gardos are free to negotiate their exits from St Mary’s, according to the Daily Echo. The duo will see both of their respective contracts expire at the end of the season, meaning that they are allowed to discuss a move elsewhere ahead of the summer transfer window. Pied joined Saints only in 2016 having signed on a free transfer following his release at OGC Nice. He has played as a second fiddle to starting right-back Cedric Soares during his short stint on the south coast, but has often proven to be a sound back-up for the Portugal international. Gardos has had a more complex tenure on the south coast. He joined in 2014 for a fee of £6m from Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest but after a good start in a Saints shirt, was plagued by injuries. The experienced defender is now hugely out of favour with Saints and it comes as no surprise to see him being shown the exit door.

When Norwich tried to sign Leistner, they had two bids rejected from Union Berlin and settled on signing Grant Hanley from the previous Championship champions Newcastle for £3.8m.
