Rafa Benitez vows to attack Southampton on Saturday

Rafa Benitez vows to attack Southampton on Saturday Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has insisted that he will set his side out to attack Southampton when they visit St James’ Park on Saturday. The Magpies are in a similar predicament to Saints, as both sides battle to avoid the drop. Neither side have convinced this season but will be desperate to secure three points when they lock horns at the weekend. Benitez set his side out somewhat defensively in the team’s recent 2-0 defeat at Liverpool. Mauricio Pellegrino, Benitez’s former protege, has been implementing a defensive and ultimately unsuccessful system with Saints also. However, as quoted by the Northern Echo, Magpies boss Benitez has vowed to set his side out with an attacking mindset when his side welcome Saints as they go in search of a crucial three points. “Obviously Southampton will be different. We play at home with our fans behind us. We have to attack and we have to create chances. Obviously every game is important to us but these types of games against the teams close to us we have to do well.” Saints are in a treacherous run of form and their trip up north bears huge importance on their bid for survival. They’ll need to be at their best, though, with Benitez undoubtedly aiming to inflict yet more misery on his former assistant manager, Pellegrino. “We have to go against Southampton, take three points and if not stay calm and carry on until the end.
