Russia must improve from their last World Cup adventure four years ago to have any chance on making it out of the group stage on home soil. Coming third, with a measly two points in 2014 means it’s crucial getting off the mark this time with all three points – as they face tougher opponents (Egypt and Uruguay) later on. This is Saudi Arabia’s first World Cup since 2006. Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi will be looking to redeem his reputation, as he failed to guide Chile to qualify for this year’s World Cup. After taking the reigns of head coach of Saudi Arabia back in November, he gets his wish to prove himself at the World Cup.

Juan Pizzi has also yet to settle on a preferred starting XI , having experimented frequently in the recent warm-up friendlies. Hardly the most compelling match to start the long-awaited start of the World Cup, Russia v Saudi Arabia could likely be decisive as to who progresses in Group A. Despite being

As for Saudi Arabia, they have lost their last three matches although one of them included a narrow 2-1 defeat as well as a loss to the Italian’s who won’t be competing at the tournament after failing to qualify.

Here is how we feel the hosts will line up for the opening match of the competition.
