Zola agrees terms to join Chelsea as Sarri's assistant

Zola agrees terms to join Chelsea as Sarri's assistant Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has reportedly agreed terms to re-join the club as Maurizio Sarri’s assistant, according to reports in Italy. Corriere della Sera, as cited on Sport Witness, say a deal between Napoli and Chelsea is close, with Zola set to return to London as part of the new look set-up. Zola is said to have agreed terms and will join the club following the World Cup. He is currently with a South African TV channel as part of their coverage. The former Italian forward has always been linked with a return to Chelsea in some capacity after a disappointing managerial career. The two clubs remain in talks over a fee for Sarri, who has reportedly already agreed on terms to replace Antonio Conte this summer. It is believed that Chelsea will pay between £4-£5 million for the manager’s services. The report also claims that the Blues are still working on deals to sign both Raúl Albiol and Elseid Hysaj alongside Sarri this summer.

The Blues have paid the former Napoli boss' release clause, with the 59- year -old set to sign a lucrative two- year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri has reportedly agreed a three-year contract to take over at Chelsea this summer.

Reports from Sport Italia claim that a breakthrough in negotiations has happened, but Chelsea still have to agree a fee with Napoli.

The report claims that Sarri will pocket around £7 million a year during his time in London.

The former Napoli boss has been Chelsea’s number one target to replace Antonio Conte, but their pursuit has been complicated by the manner of his departure from Naples.

The Blues had the chance to pay his £7 million release clause but that has since expired, but the Premier League side still need to negotiate a fee with Napoli, despite the club already hiring Carlo Ancelotti as his replacement.

Sarri discusses Chelsea move with Dries Mertens

Sarri discusses Chelsea move with Dries Mertens Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has reportedly discussed a possible move to Chelsea with Belgian forward Dries Mertens. The Independent claims that Sarri has spoken to a number of Napoli players about the possibility of following him to London this summer. Mertens is one of many Napoli players who boast a reasonably cheap release clause, which could spark some interest from Chelsea if Sarri does replace Antonio Conte. The Belgium forward, who was so influential in the way Sarri set his Napoli side up, is available for just £28 million. Despite recently turning 31, at under £30 million, he would have to be considered as a bargain transfer. Mertens scored 22 goals in all competitions for Napoli last season and has attracted interest from Barcelona in the past. Sarri is widely expected to replace current head coach Conte after agreeing a three-year contract. However, both Napoli and Chelsea remain in discussions over a settlement fee for the Italian.

Sarri was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti as Napoli manager in the course of the week and flew into London on Friday to engage in negotiations with the London club over a two- year contract . Chelsea and changing of coaches are like ladies and changing of guys.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich had a seven-hour meeting with Sarri yesterday who left Napoli this week after three years at the Serie A side. Maurizio Sarri has agreed to become Chelsea boss. Abramovich is set offer the 59-year-old a two-year contract and meet the £7million release clause

The report claims that Chelsea remain keen for Sarri to bring defender Elseid Hysaj with him to Stamford Bridge.

David Luiz continues to be linked with a move in the opposite direction. The Brazilian could be used as a bargaining chip to help Chelsea conclude a deal.

Sarri pinpoints Dries Mertens as first Chelsea signing .
Maurizio Sarri has pinpointed Napoli and Belgium forward Dries Mertens as his first Chelsea signing, according to the Telegraph. Mertens is a player that current head coach Antonio Conte has identified as a transfer target in previous summer transfer windows, but Chelsea did not pursue the Napoli star. Chelsea face competition from Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and the Chinese Super League for the player. The 31-year-old fell by the wayside following Chelsea’s transfer policy of signing players over the age of 30. The Belgian international was a key player for Sarri at Napoli and it was the incoming Chelsea boss who revolutionised the player as a central striker. Several reports have linked the forward, along with several Napoli players with a move to Stamford Bridge with Sarri expected to take over in the coming days. Mertens did have a £25 million release clause in his Napoli contract, but that expired last week, meaning Chelsea may have to pay more if they want to secure his services this summer.
