Grading Arsenal ’ s transfer window . by Ty Finch 10 months ago Follow @finchty. Arsenal finished outside the top four for the first time in Arsene Wenger’s reign. How have they done in the summer transfer window to remedy that situation?

On the whole Arsenal ’ s transfer window was successful. We should’ve strengthened more at Centre-back and in holding midfield but taking everything into account I’d grade Arsenal ’ s transfer window as 7/10.

The Arsene Wenger era has come to an end, and the reign of Unai Emery is set to begin. To prepare his squad, the Spaniard was understandably busy in the transfer market.

See how we rated the Gunners’ summer business.

Arrivals

Lucas Torreira will take the headline as the most prestigious summer signing Arsenal secured. The defensive midfielder arrives from Sampdoria and could be thrust in at the deep end at the Emirates, patrolling the space in front of the defence.

Petr Cech fell out of favour with Arsenal fans last season after a series of mishaps, and the introduction of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen means we may not see much of the veteran this season.

Ings completes move to Southampton

Ings completes move to Southampton Liverpool striker Danny Ings has joined Southampton on loan ahead of permanent move to St Mary’s next summer.  Sky sources understand Ings has initially joined the Saints on a season-long loan with his permanent deal due to start on July 1, 2019.It is believed Ings has agreed to a four-year deal with Southampton, which will commence once his loan spell ends. © Provided by Sky Sports Getty Sky sources understand a fee of £20m has been agreed between the two clubs, £18m of which is guaranteed with a further £2m based on appearances.

Arsenal were major players in the January transfer window , making a number of high-profile, significant moves. So, here are the grades for their winter business. Arsenal have been very busy in the January transfer window .

The latest on Arsenal transfers . Read transfer news and rumours, and get the details on done deals, completed ins and outs, and fees. Arsenal head coach Unai Emery says the club may have to sell some players before the summer transfer window closes.

Experienced defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis will help to sure up what was a porous defence in the 2017-18 campaign as well.

Young midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was snapped up from Ligue 2’s FC Lorient for around £7 million, and fans may want to keep an eye on the much-fancied 19-year-old.

Departures

Jack Wilshere did not have his contract renewed by the club, and signed for West Ham on a free transfer.

Striker Lucas Perez concluded an entirely uninteresting Arsenal career by following Wilshere to the London Stadium, for a fee believed to be just under £4 million.

Chuba Akpom also headed out the door, bound for PAOK Saloniki of the Greek Super League.

A number of youth prospects also received loan chances, the most high profile being Calum Chambers heading for Fulham.

What more could have been done?

In all honesty, very little. With Henrik Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi the two most senior wingers, the drop-off to Joel Campbell and Ainsley Maitland-Niles is quite large, suggesting a new wide-man may not have gone amiss. With one of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sure to line up wide however, the problem may not be as serious as feared.

Final Grade: B

Arsenal look to be a more complete team for the signing of Torreira, and the arrival of Leno could make the North Londoners a force to be reckoned with this season.

Arsenal target Cristian Pavon to stay at Boca Juniors .
Premier League side Arsenal have been dealt a blow after sources close to transfer target Cristian Pavon revealed that he will not be leaving Boca Juniors this summer, according to a report on the Independent. Pavon was being strongly linked with a move to the Emirates this summer but he has reportedly come to the decision to remain in Argentina. However, the player and his club have not ruled out a move to England in the January transfer window. The 22-year-old was being monitored closely by Arsenal and Serie A side AS Roma throughout the summer, where he was one of the bright sparks for Argentina at the World Cup. The player’s representatives are confident that he will not be leaving Boca Juniors as the side look to win the Copa Libertadores for the first time since 2007. Arsenal boss Unai Emery is likely to continue scouting the winger and could test Boca’s resolve with a bid in the winter transfer window. Roma have not given up their pursuit of Pavon but at the moment, he seems happy and settled at Boca.
