Chelsea to sign Kovacic on loan

Chelsea to sign Kovacic on loan Chelsea are set to sign Matteo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain. Marca claim that the deal will be confirmed ‘in the next few hours’, with the Croatian looking to leave Madrid for regular game time. The report claims that a deal has been agreed with the player training away from the first-team squad as he pushes for a move. New Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui had been hoping to keep the player, with the former Spain boss looking to build a new-looked Madrid side, but that no longer appears to be the case. Previous reports have stated that Maurizio Sarri is a known admirer of the midfielder, having tracked him since his time at Inter. A lot was expected of the player during his time at the San Siro and it was his form there that saw him earn a move to the Spanish giants. The player will be hoping to rediscover the form he showed in Italy whilst on loan in London.

Interestingly his price has fallen after a dip in form , so may be worth picking up while relatively cheap. Eden Hazard ( Chelsea - £10.7m). Best bargain midfielders . When looking at midfielders , it is a good idea to have a variety of players who are stars for their particular teams and sometimes you

You cannot underestimate the importance of central midfielders , as they are key in stifling their opponents by breaking up their attack before they get into the final third, but He has ripped Premier League defences to shreds since his return and has played a huge factor in Chelsea ’s dominance.

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley looks to have a future Chelsea after impressing new manager Maurizio Sarri in pre-season and the Community Shield.

The former Everton midfielder joined the West London side from Everton for £15million in January, but a nasty hamstring injury and a lack of trust from then Chelsea manager Antonio Conte limited him to just two Premier League appearances all season for the Blues.

However, he was a regular during Chelsea’s pre-season and played 90 minutes in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Maurizio Sarri: Chelsea needed Jorignho much more than Manchester City did

Maurizio Sarri: Chelsea needed Jorignho much more than Manchester City did The Blues boss says he will explain to his friend Pep Guardiola how his side got the midfielder from under their rival's nosesMaurizio Sarri is happy his side secured Jorginho from under the noses of Manchester City and he says it could be a factor in closing the gap with between them and Chelsea.

The Chelsea midfielder was arguably Watford's most creative player during his brief spell on the pitch. Watford was a nadir for a player who has been trawling through the depths of form throughout his time in the Premier League.

Manchester United midfielder Pogba, 24, was involved in a huge bust up with boss Jose Mourinho following a poor run of form including being hauled off in the 1-0 loss to Newcastle. Frank Lampard believes Paul Pogba must watch his performances back to rediscover his form .

The 24-year old played on the right side of a three-man midfield containing Cesc Fabregas and new £50 million signing Jorginho.

Barkley’s footballing ability was present for all to see at Wembley, however, he was often exposed by Manchester City’s silky midfield who seemed to cut through the heart of Chelsea at will.

Sarri praised Barkley’s performance but admitted that he will have to work on the defensive side of his game.

The Italian said:

“I like him, he’s a technical player. I like him very much. He has to improve on the defensive phase. I think it’s difficult at this moment to play with Jorginho, Cesc [Fabregas] and Ross altogether. But I like him. I think he will be a very useful player for us.”

Sarri’s praise will be music to Barkley’s ears, as it seemed like his career was never going to take off under Conte.

Grading Chelsea's transfer window

Grading Chelsea's transfer window Infuriated by Liverpool setting the world record transfer fee paid for a goalkeeper, Chelsea moved to blow serious cash on a new shot-stopper after their trust number one headed out the door. See how we rated Chelsea’s summer transfer window. Arrivals Kepa Arrizabalaga replaces Thibaut Courtois, and not cheaply. £72 million was enough to trigger the release clause in the Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper’s contract, and he makes the trip to London with a great amount of pressure to perform from day one. New boss Maurizio Sarri came from Serie A giants Napoli, and brought defensive midfielder Jorginho with him. The Brazilian’s presence will ease the transition from outgoing manager Antonio Conte’s playing style to Sarri’s, pulling the strings from deep. As part of the deal that sent Courtois to Real Madrid, midfielder Mateo Kovacic travels the other way on a season-long loan. With a high number of midfielders now in his squad, it will be interesting to see how Sarri distributes playing time. Departures Courtois forced his way out of Stamford Bridge in the end, failing to show up after the World Cup. With just one year left on the Belgian’s contract, Chelsea still did well to command £31 million for the colossal gloveman, in addition tot he Kovacic loan. The usual mass Chelsea loan exodus continued true to form, with seven players securing moves in the window. Eden Hazard has not moved yet, although numerous foreign clubs remain interested in signing the winger.

José Mourinho’s dig at Antonio Conte has diverted attention from the FA Cup final’s pivotal confrontation in which Chelsea ’s midfield There would have been concerns as to whether United’s flanking midfielders could offer sufficient support to their holding player to handle Hazard and Willian.

The 28-year-old says he has rediscovered his form in recent months. Cesc Fabregas has admitted that he forgot how to play football during a dip in form earlier this season. The Chelsea midfielder believes he is now returning to his best after losing his confidence.

Injuries have stagnated his career in the last few years and it is easy to forget that he was once viewed as being the next big thing in English football.

Roberto Martinez, when he was managing Barkley at Everton, even said:

“I can see some (Michael) Ballack in him and some Gazza (Paul Gascoigne).”

At 24-years old, his career is far from over and it appears that he has gained Sarri’s trust and confidence.

However, while one Chelsea midfielder has been given another chance, Ruben Loftus Cheek’s Chelsea future does not look as bright.

The Chelsea academy graduate did not make the squad for Sunday’s curtain-raiser against Manchester City and he has never had a consistent run of matches at Stamford Bridge.

With the likes of N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and now £50 million Jorginho, all donning the royal blue of Chelsea, Ruben Loftus-Cheek faces a tough battle to cement a starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

After playing a big role in England’s World Cup campaign, he will be desperate to stay in Southgate’s plans and if  Barkley’s performances for Chelsea improve, then he could find himself stuck behind the former Everton man at Chelsea and England.

But with his late return from the World Cup, it might just be that Sarri believes that he is not match-fit yet and needs more time to train.

Either way, it is a huge summer for the powerful midfielder and it will be interesting to see which club he will be at come deadline day.
