Ireland will be as hot as Barcelona and Rome today as temperatures soar to 13C.

And Met Eireann say these mild temperatures - well above the November average of 8C - will last until the weekend.

Today is set to be quite humid, with a mixture of sunshine and showers.

In a post on their website, the national forecaster said: "It'll be generally cloudy and misty today, with scattered patches of drizzle and fog but a few bright spells also. Top temperatures of 10C to 13C in light variable breezes.

"Tonight will be misty with variable amounts of cloud. Some patches of drizzle at times under cloudy skies but where clear spells develop, fog will form and will be dense in places.

"It'll be cool, with lowest temperatures of 3C to 6C with some frost locally also."

Looking ahead to the next few days, Met Eireann say the weather will remain changeable.

They continued:"Fog will lift slowly during Wednesday morning with some patchy drizzle in places, but some dry, bright spells also and top temperatures of 9C to 13C.

"There will be some scattered patches of drizzle and fog at first on Wednesday night, but a spell of heavy and persistent rain will move in off the Atlantic later.

"It'll stay mild, with lowest temperatures 6C to 9C.

"The band of rain will affect all areas for a time on Thursday, but should have cleared by early afternoon. Some sunny spells in the clearance, with most places dry, but fresh with highs of just 7C to 10C."

There could be a change in temperature on Thursday night, with the weather experts predicting temperatures could drop to -3C.
