  Irish weather: Met Eireann issue warning as 100km/hr winds to batter Ireland Met Eireann have issued a weather warning as Ireland prepares for a very wet and windy day.The Status Yellow alert for wind is in place for the entire country until 8am.Warning what is to come, a forecaster said: "Southerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 60 km/hr with gusts of 90 to 100km/hr."The strongest winds will be in coastal areas."The windy conditions will continue throughout the day, coupled with widespread and heavy rain.Temperatures meanwhile will rise to a very mild 12C before dropping again after dark.

Met Eireann are forecasting a mild day with some sunny spells.

Enjoy it while it lasts though, as conditions are set to return to normal later in the week.

Talking about today's weather, a forecaster said: "Mist and fog will gradually clear this morning. Generally dry for the morning with the cloud breaking at times to allow some sunshine through.

"In the afternoon rain will develop in the west and slowly extend eastwards. Mild today with highs of 10C to 13C.

In comparison, Barcelona will reach highs of 12C and Venice 7C.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the national forecaster wrote on their website: "Apart from an occasional shower Tuesday will be a dry and bright day with good spells of sunshine.

"Highest temperatures of 8C or 9C in light northerly breezes."

Giving their outlook for the rest of the week, a forecaster continued: "On Wednesday, frost will clear quickly. Dry and bright for the day with good sunshine.

"Cool with highs of 7C to 9C and widespread frost overnight.

"Thursday will be again generally dry for the bulk of the country, but some scattered light rain will affect the east and south at times and highs of 6C or 7C."

The National Emergency Coordination Group said there may be a Status Red warning later this week.The group, which brings together various organisations and public agencies, met earlier this morning and in a media briefing afterwards, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government said the government is “well prepared”.
